They remain solidly 2D;
and what of the new Combination3D Square from M.POWER?
The clue’s in the name – It indicates a perfect scribe line in 3D, both width and thickness simultaneously.
As for the “Combination” bit of the name?
The C3D is a precision hybrid, a genuine alternative that covers the functions of:
Combination or Try-Square,
Saddle square,
Deep range marking gauge,
Bevel gauge,
Rule,
in one tool.
And what of performance? 
Is it the case like so many other “combo” tools before it that claim a repertoire of functions only to perform most of them not very well?
In short No – it’s performance is only equalled by it’s accuracy.
The C3D is individually built by hand in England and set to the tolerance of 1/100th of 1 degree over the entire 9”length of the blade.
That’s top quality engineers square accuracy.
Possibly the best bit?
Unlike regular squares that are factory set for the life of the tool. The C3D’s construction allows the square to be re-set; or if serious damage is done, the C3D can be fully stripped down and reassembled.
