Here
we see the Tri Scribe flat lying trammel compass used for long range circle
marking mounted on a 1-meter steel rule. The ability of the scribes to
be mounted on any standard steel or aluminium rule less than 50mm wide
makes them incredibly versatile for marking out a variety of circle sizes
and arc radii.
Also shown here is the chamfered base plate of the Tri Scribe unit that
directs load forward onto the marking point tip whilst providing flat
lying stability. The rule is held in position flush against the back of
the c-shaped mounting slot with a large brass pinch bolt. A second smaller
brass pinch bolt holds the pencil in place. Alternatively a scribe point
or cutting blade can be used in the Tri-Scribe to mark out your woodwork.
Because the compasses lie flat on the workpiece the Tri Scribes are very
stable and accurate. You do not have to continuously hold them when striking
an arc or circle, and can carry on again without losing your position.
This can be very useful when marking out large circles where it can often
be a bit stop-start or in the event the outside world intervenes and you
must pause.
