The
U-Mach Kit constructed to make a Mini Mach vacuum hold down work bed here
is seen holding a workpiece obstruction free for edge moulding with a
plunge router. When constructed the U-Mach provides the user with a portable
vacuum bed that will run off a domestic vacuum cleaner or shop vacuum
system. The advantages of vacuum beds are an obstruction free workpiece
available for machining of five surfaces (face and edges) with woodworking
power tools such as routers, belt sanders, planers and biscuiters.
The compact sizes of this portable vacuum bed belies its hold down capacity
which is able of securely clamping component boards as large as 8' x 4'
(2440mm x 1220mm) if used with support blocks where there is overhanging
board.
Note the plunge router is mounted on a Stable Mate offset base to ensure
there is no router tilt during edge work.
