A
vacuum clamping work bed relies on sealed vacuum cells as shown here.
Note that each cell has a control valve in the centre which is pressure
activated by the downward force of the workpiece on the ball-bearing.
The walls of the vacuum cell are made from a closed-cell expanded neoprene
polymer sponge rubber material designed specifically for this purpose.
This acts as a gasket which seals the cell when in contact with the workpiece.
The layout and design of the rubber gasket are not arbitrary and can be
customized to your requirements. Rubber gasket material is supplied by
M.POWER Tools in rolls of 2.3 meters in length and comes in three sizes.
